The possibilities of physiotherapy which improve the postural stability of seniors
NOVOTNÝ, Petr
These days, due to low natality and increasing life expectancy, we face the fact that the Czech population is getting older and older. Growing old is connected with risks of health difficulties, that have a huge impact on the quality of our lives. One of the most important health problems that elderly people have is instability causing e.g. falls. They are quite common with increasing age and they can cause lots of serious consequences. Seniors with provable symptoms should not underestimate their state of health and they should rather look up specialized care. One of the options for the prevention of impaired postural stability and subsequent falls may be physiotherapy that focuses on this issue. This diploma thesis aims to describe the possibilities of how physiotherapy can help improve postural stability with elderly people. The thesis also suggests exercises that seniors could do on their own and thanks to them elderly people could improve their postural stability. My diploma thesis consists of the theoretical and practical part. The first one contains gained pieces of knowledge of later life, growing old, postural stability, and application of physiotherapy. In the practical part, I mention six case interpretations with elderly people between 76 and 78 years. In these interpretations, which consisted of entrance and final tests, we can see the differences that appeared after stabilographic training and after following the method that I had created. I believe that this thesis could help spread awareness of impaired postural stability with elderly people. It could probably be used for the training of seniors and it could become a therapeutic methodology not just for nurses in the retirement homes but probably for the general public as well.
Forms of active cooperation with a senior family in inretiment houses.
KOUBKOVÁ, Michaela
My Bachelor thesis addresses the topic of cooperation between retirement homes and families of elderly people, since the demographic aging represents a world-wide issue associated with the increased aging of population. The thesis aims to determine which forms of cooperation with families of elderly people are used by selected retirement homes in the South-Bohemian Region, and to specify the forms of cooperation in terms of efficiency, perspectives and current options implemented by retirement homes. The sectional goals of this thesis are to determine whether the retirement homes consider the cooperation with the families of elderly people as important for the purposes of providing comprehensive care and whether the elderly people are satisfied with the manner in which the institution cooperates with their family. The quantitative manner of research was used for the purposes of implementing the survey, while being performed via questionnaire surveys in selected retirement homes in the South-Bohemian Region. Thereupon, the secondary analysis of data was compiled in the Microsoft Office Excel 2007. The outcomes of the thesis may be used by retirement homes for the purposes of improving the quality of their services. Moreover, the retirement homes may also clarify whether the elderly people are satisfied with the particular cooperation between the family and the institution. The questionnaire surveys uncovered that the retirement homes consider the cooperation with the families of elderly people to be important for the purposes of providing their clients with comprehensive care and that the elderly people are usually satisfied with the cooperation between their families and the retirement home. As for the form of cooperation, the retirement homes mainly use the option of involving the family in the care being taken of the elderly person.
The live of users in nursing homes and in the home environment
JIRSOVÁ, Hana
The aim of this diploma thesis is to track the subjective reasons clients move to a nursing home. The theoretical part is focused on social work with the elderly, the legislative framework of the care service and the offer of assistance for the elderly. One of the chapters is devoted to the needs of old age. Part of the work is devoted to proper communication with the elderly. The end of the theoretical part is devoted to the importance of one's family in the care of the elderly and changes of one's home (moving). A qualitative research strategy was used in the diploma thesis. The research was a field research. The method of data collection was a semi-structured interview. The data were processed using qualitative content analysis and the creation of biographies of research participants. Three groups of respondents from the entire South Bohemian Region took part in the research. The first group consisted of elderly people who live in a home environment and use Home health care. The second group consisted of elderly people who live in a nursing home. The research also included a third group - employees in the care area. The most common reasons for moving to a nursing home were deteriorating health, musculoskeletal pain, frequent pain and falls. Another often mentioned reason was the fear that they could no longer take care of themselves due to reduced self-sufficiency. Most of the elderly people interviewed relied on the help of family and friends. Among the often mentioned reasons was the death of one's spouse and the fact that the family no longer wants or isn't able take care of them. From the point of view of employees, the reason may also be the solution of a housing and financial problem. Only one respondent was strongly dissatisfied with living in a nursing home. The results of the research can serve as feedback and information material for employees of care service.
Saturation of nutrition needs of seniors in seniors´ homes.
KAHOUNOVÁ, Dagmar
This bachelor thesis deals with the topic of saturation of nutrition of elderly people living in the retirement homes. Nutrition condition in the retirement homes is disturbing. The nutrition condition of elderly people is not rated enough. Insufficient nutrition causes many results and influences overall condition of elderly person organism. Reasons of insufficient nutrition can be influenced. The cornerstone for improving of nutrition condition of elderly people would be implementation of nutrition screenings to everyday care. The nutrition of elderly people has its specifics that should be kept during the elderly persons nutrition care. The bachelor thesis consists of a theoretical part and practical part. In the first part - theory -the main topics are old age, nutrition and malnutrition. The practical part follows on with a research. The aim of bachelor thesis was to find out which obstacles occur during the food intake of elderly people in retirement homes, how nurses satisty the nutrition needs of elderly and how nurses co-operate with other members of nursing care team. For achieving this goal there was used a qualitative research. The research was realized by method of semi-structured dialoques, questioning method. There were 10 nurses working for retiremnet homes who participated in above stated research. The interviews were written down by pencil-paper method and transcribed. As a result was detected that the nutrition condition of elderly people is only minimally rated. In the retirement homes there usually is not implemented any standard, there are only internal procedures. A nutrition specialist usually does not join the nursing care team. If there is neither its own cooking area/kitchen in the retirement home nor the nutrition specialist, there is not served the suitable food for each of the elderly person individual needs. It is neccessary to implement the nutrition screenings to everyday nursing care.
Assessment of nutritional status of the elderly population living in rest home and at home
SVATOŠOVÁ, Tereza
The bachelor thesis with the title "Assesment of Nutritional Status of the Elderly Population Living in Rest Home and at Home" is concerning problems related to nutrition at old age. The theoretical part of the thesis is focused on the definition of the old age and the changes of an old body associated with nutrition, and also on needs of energy and of individual nutrients. The thesis is also concerning interactions between food and drugs, nutrition disorders at old age and possibilities how to investigate and assess nutritional state. The experimental group was created by 6 elderly people, 3 people were living in Rest Homes for the Elderly and 3 people were living at home. They were all over 65 years of age. The goal was to investigate their nutritional state and to compare the results we received from people living in Rest Homes for the Elderly and people living at home. There was chosen qualitative research form of investigation. We firstly received basic information that concerned anthropometrical data, personal health anamnesis, family anamnesis, etc. in form of semi structured interview. We recorded answers obtained from interviewees' 1 week nutritional questionnaires. There are recorded data of each elderly person received during the interview in the practical part of the thesis, there is also calculated recommended intake of energy and nutrients, calculation of food pattern received from the software program "Nutriservis Professional" and in the end, there are carried out some recommendations. We can see from the results that the elderly fail to have appropriate fluids intake, they do not have enough vegetables, legumes, fish and fish products. Investigated elderly people preferred fats to carbohydrates. However, it is not possible to conclude explicitly based on found results that the nutritional state in the interviewed people from the Rest Home for Elderly is better than in people living at home. But the nutritional patterns of elderly people from Rest Homes for Elderly had better choice of appropriate food and meals were rarely repeated. It is necessary for the Elderly to receive more information on the nutrition so that they can realize that also at their old age it is important to eat proper diet with sufficient quantity so that it will meet the requirements concerning their actual needs. The research result and recommendation can be used by organizations that take care of the elderly people and also by the elderly themselves as the source of information about nutrition and proper diet.
Evaluation of life satisfaction of pensioners (healthcare institutions, homecare agencies, retirement houses)
FUJDLOVÁ, Radka
Theoretical concepts: The central topic of my thesis is the life satisfaction of the elderly, although this concept is perceived very subjectively. Moreover, it varies even in one person at different life stages and it depends on various circumstances and events that accompany people on their life journeys. However, experiencing satisfaction always requires the saturation of one's needs, physical ones as well as mental, social and spiritual ones. Most of the times, one is able to provide for their needs, or at least affect them, through their activities and their will, but the older ones grows, the more one becomes dependent on others in this respect. This task is usually taken in part by one's family members who are willing to help and take care of their close relative, but there also arise situations where one has to entrust themselves into the hands of health professionals, especially nurses. The nurses' tasks do not just include staffing surgeries, but it is necessary for them to pay attention to the individual needs of their clients. Importance of both these components of care is entirely equivalent, because treatment success depends largely on the psychological state, defined by the satisfaction of the clients' life needs, and, on the other hand, the measure a patients' well-being is strongly influenced by the state of their health depending on successful treatment. Professional care that their clients receive is often linked to the placement of the elderly in some health institutions; possibly there may be a situation when an elderly person stays in their home and receives care from field medical staff for only a few hours a day. In any case, the objective of such care, through whatever methods it is provided, should be to achieve the highest possible degree of satisfaction of elderly individuals. Objectives of the thesis: To find out about subjective evaluation of life satisfaction of the elderly depending on their age To find out about subjective evaluation of life satisfaction of the elderly depending on their sex To find out about subjective evaluation of life satisfaction of the elderly depending on institution type Hypotheses: H1: Men are more satisfied than women H2: Satisfaction of the elderly decreases as they grow older H3: The most satisfied are the elderly who use the services of ADP Methods: The method of quantitative research was used in the practical part. For this purpose, the reduced SQUALA standardized questionnaire was used. It had been transferred to interview form due to the age of the target group of the elderly. The obtained data was processed with Microsoft Office Excel and some calculations were made with the Statistica programme. Answers from one hundred respondents were obtained as part of the survey; the respondents came from South Bohemia, particularly from the Český Krumlov and České Budějovice regions. Three types of health care institutions were contacted: a home care agency, retirement homes and hospital aftercare wards. Fifteen elderly persons were obtained for cooperation in the home care agency, 39 persons in retirement homes and 46 persons in hospitals. Results: The results of the survey show that satisfaction of the elderly is most affected by the type of health institution used, i.e. by the environment in which they are provided with health care. Definitely the most satisfied are the people who use the services of the home care agency. On the other hand, age or sex did not play a significant role when evaluating life satisfaction. Conclusion: The importance of this thesis may lie mostly in the opportunity to use the acquired knowledge, regarding the satisfaction of the elderly and the factors that influence this satisfaction, to improve the quality of care provided by nurses and other health staff.

Mátlová M. Social work with elderly people in residential facilities. České Budějovice 2014. Bachelor´s thesis. University of South of Bohemia in České Budějovice. Faculty of theology. Department practice. Supervisor H. Machulová. Keywords: aging and old age, quality of life, elderly person, social work, social worker, social services, social work with groups, group games and activities with elderly. Bachelor´s thesis is called "Social work with elderly in residential facilities" is aimed to group work with elderly as a one method of social work. I try map benefits and negatives, which lies in group work with elderly in residential facilities, by means this bachelor´s thesis. There are different views on status of elderly in today society. One view states, that young generation seen elderly person like somebody unnecessary, useless, who burdens society and it often leads to placement elderly to residential facilities, where they almost spend rest of their life. The second view states, that exist families, who care about their elderly till the last moment. They often use services of day care and try to take care about their elderly of all forces and they place him/her into the residential facilities in extreme case, when they have not another choice. It is understandable that the best home for seniors with offer of services and supportive care can not compensate real home, love and care of relationships. There are offered series of activities which help to elderly people to spend their meaningful leisure time., but not everybody have strength or interest in participation. There is important motivation of social workers in the facilities which offered these activities. There are often used group activities in residential facilities, which I maped in bachelor´s thesis and introduce practice knowledge at work with elderly. Bachelor´s thesis consists of three chapters. The first chapter is aimed to knowledge of aging and old age. There are described changes, which can set influence of aging in elderly´s life and how are the reactions on them. I mention here statue of society to elderly people, how young generation perceives elderly. The second chapter is aimed to social work. I mention here borders of social work, historical consequences in realationship to social work, methods of social work, and I deal with law number 108/2006 Collection. about social work. The third chapter deals with group work obviously, requirement of social worker and concrete form of group work with elderly. I mention problem´s aspects in this part, which can occur in group work with elderly and I based on my own knowledge. In the fourth chapter are found case reports in story form, where is given group work with clients. I found due to bachelor´s thesis more informations about aging and old age and their influence on life of eldery people, about social work, I maped group activities, which are offered in series residential facilities and so on. If I have interested in this issue in future, I would focused on satisfactions of elderly in residential facilities and I would maped reasons of placement in these types of facilities.
The role of nurse in recognition of the early stages of dementia
VELÁTOVÁ, Jana
The aim of this work was to find out whether the nurses working in the rooms of G.P. for adults can recognize signals of early stages of clients´ dementia, whether the nurses purposefully aim their effort to recognise the signals and whether the elderly people themselves are interested in such interventions. The group to be investigated was made up of a group of nurses from the G.P. rooms in the Tabor District and a group of elderly people at the age of 65 and over from the Tabor District as well. The investigation was made through quantitative research, questions; structured questions were used for the collection of data. The reason to do this work was to draw the attention to the nurses having broad possibilities to recognize the early stages of this disorder and to influence the fate of a lot of patients. The findings did not confirm the hypothesis that the nurses working in the G.P. rooms do not have possibilities to fully use their competence or to use their new knowledge of nursing to recognize symptoms of dementia of the elderly people and to broaden awareness of healthy aging. The research confirmed the second hypothesis that the nurses in the G.P. rooms do not purposefully aim their efforts to identify the early stages of dementia. The third hypothesis was confirmed; the elderly people showed their interest in the nurse{\crq}s intervention to identify the symptoms of dementia, thus confirming their reliance in nurses{\crq} expertise. All three objectives were fulfilled. At the close of the study it was pointed out that the existing approach of the nurses in the G.P. rooms to this disorder should change, the nurses should partake in using standardised less time consuming methods to test the elderly people with a higher risk of dementia, and to broaden awareness of healthy aging and all possible ways to prevent the syndrome of dementia.
